OVERVIEW
Located in Desa Plesungan, Northern part of Solo, Padepokan Lemah Putih is an interdisciplinary arts institution and a place where public and artists can experience the work of local, Indonesian and international artists working in the areas of traditional as well as contemporary based performing arts, visual arts, included new media and performance arts. Padepokan Lemah Putih area and facilitations are designed suitably to its original village environment and provides possibilities to develop art works in a ca. 4 ha outdoor landscapes, and pendopos. Padepokan Lemah Putih also offers a vision of contemporary art in which the natural landscape and social environment, including the historical background are determinants in the creation of the works. Through its program of festivals, performance events, exhibitions, screenings, workshops, laboratories and a range of interdisciplinary projects, Padepokan Lemah Putih seeks to promote the arts while stimulating critical discussion about the arts and broader cultural issues. Padepokan Lemah Putih provides chances for local, national and international artists to exchange and share experiences through the process of creating artworks, conceptual projects and participating in workshops, performances and other activities.
MISSIONS
Padepokan Lemah Putih’s missions are
to creatively and critically engage with traditional and contemporary ideas and arts practice with a local, national and international focus; to encourage experimental, innovative and high qualified works; to support artists at all stages of their career and across art forms by providing space and opportunities to present; to support non academic arts education through professional workshops, open lectures and study club; to regard the development of arts and relate it with cultural, environmental and humanity issues.
PHILOSOPHY
Padepokan Lemah Putih is founded to support all forms of art and creative works which are considering the hybrid concepts of humanity and culture diversities. Padepokan Lemah Putih should be a bowl which give a concentrated place of mixture and exchange and a bridge which connects people and disciplines who aim to transform their artistic ideas and reflect their positions in the society. Padepokan Lemah Putih aims to develop a way to go forward in creating artwork with the most basic and simple condition for an immense result.
HISTORY
Padepokan Lemah Putih is founded in 1986 by Suprapto Suryodarmo, who offers training programs and workshops in the Amerta Movement, a movement-based expressive arts approach that integrates the Javanese philosophy and western dynamics. The school of Amerta Movement has become an established education part of the institution contributed supports for the continuation of the Padepokan Lemah Putih‘s other activities. Since the last 15 years, Padepokan Lemah Putih has been providing its facilitations and organizational contribution for local and international festivals of theatre, dance, performance art and visual arts, in traditional as well as contemporary context, such as Sharing Time, ‘Festival Seni Pasar Kumandang’ in collaboration with 15 traditional Solo markets, Srawung Seni Jejer Desa, Sharing Art & Shadow, Sacred Rhythm Festival, Sacred Rhythm, and many others. Since 2003, Padepokan Lemah Putih has been programming its regular activities, such as Lir-ilir, and Macaning performance events. The institute continues to be a centre for research, collaborations, workshops, training classes and performances.

Padepokan Lemah Putih is open for all artists from Solo,from other places in the region and around the country, local to international, young people, students, teachers, neighborhood and everybody who wants to obeserve, learn, share, develop art works.
PROJECT DESEMINATION
Our public relations relates with media (i.e. local radio and television), press (i.e. magazines, art and culture magazines, and newspapers), print media (i.e. posters, leaflets and brochures), cyber media (i.e. website and internet) and international art networks.
