Andrea Saemann

Born in 1962, grown up in Basel, Switzerland, I am still living in my home town.
After studying architecture, I turned towards ligther constructions, got interested into stage design and ended up on stage. Doing things with hands and mouth, gesture and language, I studied then performance art with Marina Abramovic.
Since 1989 I did presentations that after a while I started to call performances. I see myself as a contributor to the performance art scene. This means, creating and inviting and organizing and dealing with its history and its future.
Since 1996 it happens that I am invited to teach. Since 2002 I work with Katrin Grögel (art historian) on an edition of interviews with women pioneers of the performance art called «Performance Saga» (www.performancesaga.ch) .
My credo is: «I work because I am impressed.»
